It’s very difficult to determine exactly when the next “Doctor Who” episode will premiere; in England, they have been advertising one for August, but have kept mum on exactly when, so rival networks would be less likely to counter-program.

BBC America wants to show it as soon as possible, but can’t say when.

So it makes sense that the space-filling special, “The Timey-Wimey of ‘Doctor Who’” (BBC America, 9 p.m.) in which we review how the concept of time is handled by th good doctor.

Time travel is also explored by the show that follows it, “The Nerdist” (BBC America, 10 p.m.).

Jessalyn Gilsig plays a real estate agent who runs a Girl Scout troop’s annual sale in the original film “Smart Cookies” (Hallmark, 9 p.m.), which also stars Patricia Richardson and Bailee Madison. It’s meant to mark the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts.

Hoping to beat the crush of shows about dads raising kids and gay dads trying to adopt is “10 Kids, 2 Dads” (OWN, 10 p.m.) about two dudes with a whole lot of kids. It’s a reality show. And because it’s on Oprah’s network, there will be a warm feeling and a lesson at the end.

Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds star in “The Change-Up” (HBO, 8 p.m.) making its cable premiere. Also on tonight, Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake are in “Friends with Benefits” (Starz, 9 p.m.) and Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Olivia Wilde star in “Cowboys & Aliens” (Cinemax, 10:30 p.m.).

Like Kevin Costner in westerns? Choose between the 1994 “Wyatt Earp” (AMC, 8 p.m.) and his work in the conclusion of the three part “Hatfields & McCoys” (History, 8 p.m.) from earlier this summer.

Perhaps it is vampires you seek. There is “Fright Night” (TMC, 9 p.m.) and “Daybreakers” (Syfy, 9 p.m.).

The mixed martial arts in “Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman” (Showtime, 10 p.m.) shouldn’t be mixed up with the scripted “Strike Back” (Cinemax, 9 p.m.).

Let us review some of the Shark Week highlights as it comes to an end: “Shark Week’s 25 Best Bites” (Discovery, 8 p.m.), “Air Jaws Apocalypse” (Discovery, 9 p.m.) and “Mythbusters Jawsome Shark Special” (Discovery, 9 p.m.).

Child star Freddie Bartholomew is the unusual star all day on Turner Classic Movies’ Summer Under the Stars with a prime time lineup of “Captains Courageous” (8 p.m.) and “Kidnapped” (10:15 p.m.), followed by “Lloyd’s of London” (midnight) and “David Copperfield” (2:15 a.m.).

Allen Toussaint plays a replay of “Austin City Limits” (PBS, 9 p.m., check local listings).

“Saturday Night Live” (NBC, 11:30 p.m.) returns after a two week absence during the Olympics, but with a rerun from earlier this year featuring Jason Segel, with Florence + The Machine as musical guests.
