Political junkies will have to have their gratification deferred, as the Republican National Convention scheduled to start to day in Tampa was scuttled in advance due to inclement weather.

While it now looks like Isaac has shifted course somewhat, the pundits are still ready at the microphone to go on and on until a gavel gets struck on Tuesday.

Not that there was a lot of coverage planned anyway. Of the commercial broadcast networks, only ABC set aside an hour a night to the event (now it will be filled with a rerun of “Castle” (ABC, 10 p.m.)).

Public television, whose miniscule public funds are threatened by the very party who will be meeting, had on the other hand, planned the kind of nightly three hour coverage other networks have long since abandoned, simultaneously demonstrating the need for public broadcasting while also showing their very distinguished teams.

(Tonight they will have fallback for “Antiques Roadshow” (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings), “Market Warriors” (PBS, 9 p.m., check local listings) and “Antiques Roadshow” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings).

The most complete picture from the convention may well come from the constant cameras on CSPAN, where they’ll stay with the proceedings and not break as often for studio commentary.
