FALL TV 2012

We wind up a week’s worth of looking at the new fall season night by night with what has become the most prestigious night for television (at least on cable). The networks stick largely with what they’ve been doing the past few years – football, cartoons, reality and, new to the night, “Revenge.”

NEW SHOW

“666 Park Avenue” (ABC, 10 p.m., starts, Sept. 30). There’s some drawbacks to trying to present horror on broadcast TV: Standards and practices prevent things from going too far; commercials keep interrupting, there’s a network gloss over everything. This new series about an old Central Park West apartment building with a connection to hell can never get as scary as even “American Horror Story” did on cable. Rather, its connections seem silly, and the cast which includes Terry O’Quinn and Vanessa Williams seems wasted.

RETURNING SHOWS

“The Cleveland Show” (Fox, 7:30 p.m., returns Oct. 21), “Once Upon a Time” (ABC, 8 p.m., Sept. 30), “The Amazing Race” (CBS, 8:30 p.m., Sept. 30), “The Simpsons” (Fox, 8 p.m., Sept. 30), “Bob’s Burgers” (Fox, 8:30 p.m., Sept. 30), “Revenge” (ABC, 9 p.m., Sept. 30), “The Good Wife” (CBS, 9 p.m., Sept. 30), “Family Guy” (Fox, 9 p.m., Sept. 30), “American Dad” (Fox, 9:30 p.m., Sept. 30), “The Mentalist” (CBS, 10 p.m., Sept. 30),
