Amid the natural disasters and big elections of recent weeks, there was one news event that stood out for its sheer audacity and wonder: The record setting 102,800-foot jump from the edge of space by Felix Baumgatner on Oct. 14.For a co production of the National Geographic and the BBC, “Space Dive” (National Geographic, 7 p.m.), it was the culmination of years of following plans for the remarkable feat, sponsored not by NASA, sadly, but Red Bull.
Finally, there is the jump itself, a four minute, 36 second, heart-stopping drop in which he reached a speed of 614 mph. It’s really remarkable TV.
