Retro series, from “Mad Men” to “The Hour,” can be inspiring for generations who never got to live the era.
Take Dollie: Except for the tattoos, the 24 year old girl who obsesses about 50s style fits right in with the retro furniture of her bungalow. Dollie is one of four young women who are seen as the latest oddities to be followed by TLC.
Their new show, “Wives with Beehives” (TLC, 10 p.m.), runs just after the season two reunion episode of “Wives with Botox,” or as they are better known, “Real Housewives of Miami” (Bravo, 9 p.m.).
It’s no Christmas classic, but “Happy New Year, Charlie Brown” (ABC, 8 p.m.) is a 1986 special featuring such latter day characters as Peppermint Patty and Marci.
Stacy Keibler is guest judge for the five remaining contestants on “Project Runway” (Lifetime, 9 p.m.). She would also have made an excellent model. The designer Elie Tahari is also a guest judge.
Are you watching the nightly marathon of “Game of Thrones” (HBO, 8, 9 and 10 p.m.)?
Even cable is chock full of reruns, except for a “Wicked Tuna” (National Geographic, 8 p.m.) special and a couple of episodes of “Rocket City Rednecks” (National Geographic, 9 and 9:0 p.m.).
And “The Will: Family Secrets Revealed” (Investigation Discovery, 9 p.m.) is apparently a different show than “Shocking Family Secrets” (Discovery Fit, 10 p.m.).
The “Four Weddings” (TLC, 9 p.m.) considered tonight are at a medieval castle, a maritime museum, a backyard and Harvard. Which one works best?
A couple of mid-90s Disney animation features play, “Hercules” (ABC Family, 7:05 p.m.) and “Pocahontas” (ABC Family, 9:10 p.m.). You may know songs from them.
Teens in Oneida County, N.Y. get “Beyond Scared Straight” (A&E, 10 p.m.).
The Fox showcase comedy tonight is “The Mindy Project” (Fox, 8 p.m.), with four episodes. They’re all reruns, like everything else on broadcast TV tonight except for an new edition of “Rock Center with Brian Williams” (NBC, 10 p.m.).
It’s in my category of watching it pretty much every time it’s on: “The Big Lebowski” (Encore, 8 p.m.).
The actress Gene Tierney is the star on Turner Classic Movies tonight, in “Black Widow” (8 p.m.), “The Left Hand of God” (9:45 p.m.), “The Return of Frank James” (11:30 p.m.), “Where the Sidewalk Ends” (1:15 a.m.), “Belle Star” (3 a.m.) and “Night and the City” (4:30 p.m.).
Three college football bowl games are on today: San Jose State vs. Bowling Green (ESPN, 3 p.m.) in the Military Bowl, Cincinnati vs. Duke (ESPN, 6:30 p.m.) in the Belk Bowl and Baylor vs. UCLA (ESPN, 9:45 p.m.) in the Holiday Bowl.
In NBA action, it’s Dallas at Oklahoma City (TNT, 8 p.m.) and Boston at L.A. Clippers (TNT, 10:30 p.m.).
In college hoops, it’s New Mexico at Cincinnati (ESPN2, 9 p.m.).
