She gets a bad rap in the history of rock ‘n’ roll. Her “How Much is that Doggie in the Window” is often cited as the kind of music in the mid 50s that the young new music was rebelling against.
But there is something to be said about the languid, note-perfect style of the singer, who died New Year’s Day at 85. Her looks were almost as alluring of her songs which includes “Tennessee Waltz” and ended with the haunting title tune to “Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte.” It’s high time for a Patti Page revival, during slow and surreal David Lynch movies.
I could have easily posted her hypnotizing versions of “You Belong to Me” and “The End of the World.” But neither come with such a great video, of the singer in a beautiful dress, inside an antiques shop apparently, because it ties into the title, “For Sentimental Reasons.”
