carole-king-barack-obamaCarole King, the woman who enlivened the Brill Building, recorded an album that set the tone for a generation, judging from her performance recently at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction event, still sounds pretty good, is honored with the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize with a concert “In Performance a the White House” (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings).

The event, held last week in the West Wing, allows the singer songwriter with a 50 year career to sit between President Obama and Vice President Biden as a host of performers do her songs, including James Taylor, Billy Joel, Emeli Sande, Trisha Yearwood, Gloria Estefan and Jesse McCartney. And then she does a tune as well.

Speaking of Billy Joel, his motorcycle gets fixed up on a new “American Restoration” (History, 10 p.m.).

Summer’s an odd time for network TV, with returning reality shows, Canadian imports and some reruns. But there is also room for a six-part documentary series such as “Brooklyn D.A.” (CBS, 10 p.m.), in which the goings on of the Kings County District Attorney’s Office are chronicled.

More common, though, are things like “Extreme Weight Loss” (ABC, 8 p.m.), with its gimmick of reducing one person at a time, each weeks.

“Reaper: Reunion” (FearNet, 9 p.m.) brings together cast members from the three-season CW series, soon to be syndicated.

A 13 year old Pakistani girl who threatened her well being by reporting a rape by four men is covered on a new “Frontline” (PBS, 10 p.m. check local listings).

What would “Upstairs Downstairs” be if written by Tyler Perry? Probably like “The Haves and Have Nots” (OWN, 9 p.m.), his new prime time soap whose title isn’t any more subtle than what the rest of it may be like. John Schneider, Renee Lawless and Crystal Fox star.

Plaing baseball indoors and setting off fireworks there too are both things ‘Never Ever Do This at Home” (Spike TV, 11 p.m.).

It’s not just the kids who need attention in American families, the former Supernanny says. So ther’s the new “Family S.O.S. with Jo Frost” (TLC, 9 p.m.).

Say goodbye to “Body of Proof” (ABC, 10 p.m.); the third season finale will be its last.

“Constitution USA with Peter Sagal” (PBS, 9 p.m., check local listings) wraps up, pending any future amendments.

The Tuesday night salute to tough guys on Turner Classic Movies concludes with “Hard Times” (8 p.m.) “Bullitt” (10 p.m.), “Pale Rider” (midnight), “Shaft’s Big Score!” (2 a.m.) and “Shaft in Africa” (4 a.m.).
