WINTER-SUN-articleLargeThe ruins of Detroit are so cinematic, they can stand alone for drama and decay. On top of them is set the grim new cop drama “Low Winter Sun” (AMC, 10 p.m.). The tightly wound tale involves a initial murder by a couple of rogue cops who spend the rest of their time covering it up, distrusting each other and trying to figure out the attendant mysteries that reign upon them.

Mark Strong is indelible as the central cop, reprising the role he played in the UK original on which the show is based; the cast is equally solid including Lenie James, Ruben Santiago-Hudson and David Costabile. If it is not a worthy successor to “Breaking Bad” (AMC, 9 p.m.) quite yet, it’s able to hold its own alongside its final episodes. Still, it’s the latter that gets the after show, “Talking Bad” (AMC, 11 p.m.), with Chris Hardwick, along the lines of his “Talking Dead.”

For weeks the hashtags of the TV Critics Association summer press tour have collided with that of this event, finally taking place tonight. Now we’ll learn if Selena Gomez and Justin Beieber actually win as the crossed #tcas13 posts kept urging.

“Teen Choice 2013” (Fox, 8 p.m.) is hosted by Darren Criss of “Glee” and Lucy Hale of “Pretty Little Liars,” a couple of cute young faces presiding over many similar ones (whether we know them in 10 years will be the real test). OneDirection and Paramore are to perform amid the 15th annual presentations of the surf-board awards.

Bravo seems to be in the business of amassing attractive women with unattractive personalities. On the new “Eat, Drink, Love” (Bravo, 9 p.m.) it’s women swirling around the food industry in Los Angeles. One owns a high end donut shop, another is a restaurant p.r. agent, a third a food blogger. They all have the kind of voices that will grate on you first before their actions do, but that will happen too.

Perhaps they should all be sent to “Cutthroat Kitchen” (Food Network, 10 p.m.), a new competition in which chefs try to sabotage the competition. It comes after the season finale of “Food Network Star” (Food, 9 p.m.).

Good to see Yvonne Strahovski reprise her role as the sinister Hannah McKay on “Dexter” (Showtime, 9 p.m.). Not sure Dexter and Debra feel the same way.

After a double elimination last week, it’s time for some regrouping and new nominations tonight on “Big Brother” (CBS, 9 p.m.).

Ms. Winfrey talks to the cast of “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” and promotes her new movie on “Oprah’s Next Chapter” (OWN, 9 p.m.).
