Great-Performances-40th-Anniversary-CelebrationThe 40th anniversary of “Great Performances” (PBS, 9 p.m.) is marked not with a compilation tape but with a live event from Lincoln Center, hosted by Julie Andrews, who has performed several times on the program. She does not sing here but makes way for Audra McDonald, Michael Buble, Josh Groban, Patti Austin, Take 6 and looking quite dour, Don Henley singing “Desperado.”

Rock music is the exception of course, so there is a touch of classical from Itzhak Perlman and opera from Elina Garanca. There’s no live theater, though there are clips of a lot of performances, including one from last week’s “Henry V.” Michael Buble ends the thing by inviting the audience up on the stage for “the first ever PBS mosh pit.” Everybody gets a tote bag.

After years of burning people’s clothes and making them update their wardrobe, Stacy London and Clinton Kelly say farewell to the longest running show on cable with  a two hour series finale for “What Not to Wear” (TLC, 9 p.m.) that features a makeover and updates on past participants. It’s preceded by a behind-the-scenes look and fan Q&A at 8 p.m.

A new companion for “Comedy Bang! Bang!” (IFC, 10 p.m.) is the sketch comedy troupe “The Birthday Boys” (IFc, 10:30 p.m.) a group so subtle that you might not think they’re comedy at first except for the appearance of producer Bob Odenkirk. It seems at first another whitebread troupe that looks as if they might have been great five years ago. It’s no replacement for “Portlandia” or “Moran” for that matter.

Chef Gordon Ramsay is back to torturing, apparently, making kids on “MasterChef Junior” (Fox, 8 p.m.) cook liver and sardines.

Rebecca De Mornay guest stars on “Hawaii Five-0” (CBS, 9 p.m.).

On a week when he could have crowed about the Republican implosion, “Real Time with Bill Maher”   (HBO, 10 p.m.) is a rerun; the one with Oliver Stone and Chris Matthews.

One of my favorite films, “Diner” (Sundance, 8 p.m.) is back on. Other big movies tonight include “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (Bravo, 8 and 10:30 p.m.), “Batman Returns” (ABC, 8 p.m. and “Moneyball” (FX, 7 and 10 p.m.) and “Zero Dark Thirty” (Starz, 9 p.m.).

Besting “The O.C.,” “The Neighbors” (ABC, 8:30 p.m.) invent their own holiday hybrid, Challoweenukah, a mix of Halloween and Hanukkah.

Goats for lawn mowers is the low-tech scheme presented on “Shark Tank” (ABC, 9 p.m.).

It’s regular old Halloween, meanwhile, on “Last Man Standing” (ABC, 8 p.m.)

The historical “Gold Fever” (Discovery, 9 p.m.) reaches its conclusion with two episodes.

On a new “Cassadee Pope: Frame by Frame” (CMT, 10 p.m.), she returns to “The Voice” to sing her new single.

Game five in the National League Championship Series has Dodgers at Cardinals (TBS, 8:30 p.m.).

Turner Classic Movies continues its Friday night horror with “Burn Witch, Burn” (TCM, 8 p.m.), “The Tomb of Ligeli” (9:45 p.m.), “The Seventh Victim” (11:15 a.m.), “Curse of the Demon” (12:30 a.m.), “I Walked with a Zombie” (2:15 a.m.), “The Leopard Man” (330 a.m.), and “The Window” (4:45 a.m.).

College football includes Central Florida at Louisville (ESPN, 8 p.m.).
