DamonNewgirlDamon Wayans Jr. was an original member of the gang on the pilot episode of “New Girl” (Fox, 9 p.m.). With Wayans still involved in “Happy Endings,” he couldn’t stay, though, and his slot was largely thought to have been taken by Lamorne Morris, a new  African-American in the cast.

At least Morris had a different name in the cast, allowing Wayans’ character, Coach, back in the fold for now, now that “Happy Endings” has ended. He will apparently stick around for a while too, at least until another sitcom comes along

Also returning for a new season, its third, is “The Shahs of Sunset” (Bravo, 10 p.m.).

Dean finds a way to communicate with the dog on “Supernatural” (The CW, 9 p.m.).

The difficult years of 18-61-1896 are covered in the third episode of “The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross” (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings).
