It seems like a subject that’s been covered before. But “The Astronaut Wives Club” (ABC, 8 p.m.) takes another stab at the women who were thrown in the spotlight when their husbands became the first set of astronauts. Steely and supportive on the outside, doubtful and who knows what else inside. Because they’re based on the real women, with the same names , from Grissom, Glenn, Schirra, Slayton, Cooper and Carpenter — they don’t go too far off the track in depicting them as heroines.
Taking advantage of recent TV success recreating the early 60s, the show stars the always good Yvonne Strahovski as one of the women.
The series accompanies a two hour premiere for an unexplained new season of “Mistresses” (ABC, 9 p.m.).
Jason O’Mara stars as an ER doctor who isn’t the same after a drive by shooting since he’s in the middle of a gang war. Or at least that’s what “Complications” (USA, 9 p.m.) from Matt Nix, creator of “Burn Notice” seems to be about.
The new “Alone” (History, 10 p.m.) is one of those cost-cutting survivalist reality shows in which the subjects are dropped into the wild of British Columbia and expected to film themselves suffering as well as they compete for a cash prize for staying the longest. What does this have to do with the channel? Well, I guess if they do anything wrong, they’re History.
Similarly, the “Mountain Men” (History, 9 p.m.) are back for a fourth season.
Jim Parsons goes “Inside the Actor’s Studio” (Bravo, 8 p.m.).
The Panthers are a little displeased with the L.A. cops on “Aquarius” (NBC, 9 p.m.).
Will goes to the hometown of “Hannibal” (NBC, 10 p.m.), which is Lithuania.
“The Comedians” (FX, 10 p.m.) have to work on the Fourth of July.
Dinosaurs? The scariest things in movies used to be bugs. So here’s “The Fly” (TCM, 8 p.m.), “Mothra” (9:45 pm.), “Them!” (11:45 p.m.), “The Wasp Woman” (1:30 a.m.), “The Swarm” (2:45 a.m.) and “The Cosmic Monster” (4:45 a.m.).
Baseball includes St. Louis at Minnesota (MLB, 1 p.m.), Milwaukee at Kansas City (Fox Sports 1, 8 p.m.) and Texas at Dodgers (MLB, 10 p.m.).
In the College World Series, it’s LSU vs. TCU (ESPN, 8 p.m.).
In golf, first round action begins in the U.S. Open (Fox Sports 1, noon; Fox, 8 p.m.), which makes an unusual prime time appearance.
