catastropheWhen an American visiting London picks up a local it turns into a relationship neither one expected on “Catastrophe” (Amazon Prime, streaming). Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan wrote and star in the comedy produced for British TV. It’s pleasant enough fare, but not as funny as recent home grown comedies such as “You’re the Worst” or “Married.”

Renee Fleming, Kelli O’Hara, Joyce DiDonato and Nathan Gunn star in Susan Stroman’s new version of “The Merry Widow” on “Great Performances at the Met” (PBS, 9 p.m., check local listings).

The new series “Killjoys” (Syfy, 9 p.m.) stars Hannah John-Kamen, Aaron Ashmore and Luke Macfarlane as a trio of bounty hunters in space.

The history of funny tunes is the theme of “College Humor’s Comedy Music Hall of Fame” (IFC, 10 p.m.). Paul F. Tompkins hosts the event which features Tenacious D and honors Weird Al Yankovic.

Bernie Sanders, Ann Coulter, Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez, Matt Lewis and Joy Reid are on a new “Real Time with Bill Maher” (HBO, 10 p.m.).

The brothers who were raised locked up in their New York apartment and called “The Wolfpack” in a new documentary about them, are the subject of a new “20/20” (ABC, 10 p.m.).

J.K. Simmons won an Oscar for his role in the movie “Whiplash” (Starz, 9 p.m.), making its premium cable premiere.

Summertime noir continues on Turner Classic Movies with “Hollow Triumph” (8 p.m.), “Mystery Street” (9:45 p.m.), “Border Incident” (11:30 p.m.), “The People Against O’Hara” (1:15 a.m.) and “Get Carter” (3:15 a.m.).

More prime time golf with second round action in the U.S. Open (Fox, 8 p.m.). It’s also on earlier, at noon, at Fox Sports 1.

Baseball includes Tigers at Yankees (MLB, 7 p.m.). In the College World Series it’s Virginia vs. Florida (ESPN2, 3 p.m.) and Vanderbilt vs. TCU (ESPN, 8 p.m.).
