Lake Mead.The future of a great American waterway is considered in the special “Killing the Colorado” (Discovery, 9 p.m.) in which filmmakers that include Barbara Kopple, Jesse Moss and Alan and Susan Raymon look at the factors threatening the western river, and who owns the water.

The Summer Games are almost here and to get you ready, a “Rio Olympics Preview Special” (NBC, 8 p.m.), hosted by Bob Costas, looks at the leading American contenders that include Katie Ladecky, Michael Phielps, Kerri Walsh Jennings and Usain Bolt while also dealing with the myriad problems the first games in South America have faced.

Events have already begin though, with a full slate of men’s soccer, including Iraq v. Denmark (NBC Sports, noon), Honduras vs. Algeria (USA, 2 p.m.), Brazil vs. South Africa (NBC Sports, NBC Universo, 3 p.m.), Mexico vs. Germany (USA, 4 p.m.), Portugal vs. Argentina (NBC Sports, NBC Universo, 5 p.m.), Sweden vs. Colombia (USA, 6 p.m.), Fiji vs. South Korea (NBC Sports, 7 p.m.) and Nigeria vs. Japan (NBC Sports, 9 p.m.).

Let’s not forget the robot games though: “BattleBots” (ABC, 8 p.m.).

The season finale of “Greatest Hits” (ABC, 9 p.m.) goes live and runs for two hours, with the likes of Ariana Grande, Celine Dion, Adam Lambert, Cyndi Lauper, Sheryl Crow and Nelly singing songs from the 1980s to the end of the last century.

Another two hour finale tonight has the final two contestants fighting out for the dream house on “Home Free” (Fox, 8 p.m.).

Two more hours of reality programming come in the Oklahoma City stop of “American Ninja Warrior” (NBC, 9 p.m.).

Another eviction comes on “Big Brother” (CBS, 8 p.m.).

Camila sends Teresa on a dangerous mission on “Queen of the South” (USA, 10 p.m.).

An eighth season starts for the comedy competition “Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘N Out” (MTV, 10 p.m.). It’s accompanied by the new “Joking Off” (MTV, 10:30 p.m.).

“Ice Road Truckers” (History, 10 p.m.) returns for its 10th season.

A whole new cast of volunteers are introduced for the second season of “60 Days In” (A&E, 10 p.m.).

The band meets a fan on “Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll” (FX, 10 p.m.).

A new reality show “Kingin’ with Tyga” (MTV, 11 p.m.) is about the rapper Tyga who in the first episode faces his fear of sharks.

The murder of a lawyer is investigated on “Ripper Street” (BBC America, 10 p.m.).

There’s an Olympic tinge to “Beat Bobby Flay with Apolo Ohno and Anne Burrell joining the battle on “Beat Bobby Flay” (food, 10 p.m.).

Faye Wray did more than just get held aloft by “King Kong” (TCM, 10 p.m.).  A full day of her work on Turner Classic Movies also includes “The Unholy Garden” (6 a.m.), “Ann Carver’s Profession” (7:30 a.m.), “Wildcat Bus” (9 a.m.), “Doctor X” (10:15 a.m.), “The Richest Girl in the World” (11:45 a.m.), “Black Moon” (1:15 p.m.), “Captain Thunder” (2:30 p.m.), “The Clairvoyant” (3:45 p.m.), “It Happened in Hollywood” (6:45 p.m.), “The Wedding March” (8 p.m.), “Thunderbolt” (midnight), “Below the Sea” (1:45 a.m.), “Sea Spiders” (3 a.m.), “The Most Dangerous Game” (3:15 a.m.) and “One Sunday Afternoon” (4:30 a.m.).
