We’re approaching the end of a week-long look at broadcast TV’s fall premiere week and of course it starts to peter out at the end of the workweek in the same way that Fridays have for years. The one new title for the night isn’t new at all, of course, but the kind of over-the-top grappling that was free-TV fare in the earliest days of the medium. Meanwhile, Netflix continues to release more shows each Friday than some networks do all season.
‘NEW’ SHOW
“WWE Friday Night SmackDown” (Fox, 8 p.m., begins Oct. 4). Wrenched from cable comes the WWE’s “SmackDown,” where the colorfully dressed fighters go through the motions in overblown matches in front of paying customers at arenas near you. The network hopes to cash in on the excitement of live sports, but legitimate sports don’t have writers’ rooms.
RETURNING SHOWS
“American Housewife” (ABC, 8 p.m., returns tonight), “Hawaii Five-0” (CBS, 8 p.m., tonight), “The Blacklist” (NBC, 8 pm., returns Oct. 4), “Charmed” (CW, 8 p.m., Oct. 11), “Fresh Off the Boat” (ABC, 8:30 p.m., tonight), “Magnum P.I.” (CBS, 9 p.m.), “Dynasty” (CW, 9 p.m., Oct. 11), “Blue Bloods” (CBS, 10 p.m., tonight).
