Like everything else this year, The Democratic National Convention (PBS, 8 p.m.; CNN, MSNBC, CSPAN, 9 p.m.; ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox News, 10 p.m.) will be very different than years past, with no convention, no delegates gathering, no big arena, no balloon drop.

But they will try to keep the party’s aims front and center through a number of individually-shot speeches amid some musical numbers.

Because the broadcast networks will kick in on 10 that’s when the big speeches are anticipated at that time, starting tonight with Sen. Bernie Sanders and former First Lady Michelle Obama.

Also set to appear opening night: Sens. Amy Klobuchar, Catherine Cortez Mastro and Doug Jones; Govs. Andrew Cuomo, Gretchen Whitmer and Reps. Jim Clyburn and Gwen Moore. Performers will include Leon Bridges and Maggie Rogers.

Among the earliest analysis will come on a live “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” (CBS, 11:35 p.m.).

The ability of women to take part in the election, let alone be a candidate for Vice President, is celebrated on its centennial on “She the People: Votes for Women” (Smithsonian, 9 p.m.).
