The pre-“Hamilton” musical from Lin-Manuel Miranda about a New York bodega gets a big screen premiere today that ought to help revive the long-dormant movie theater business. But “In the Heights” (HBO Max, streaming), which stars Anthony Ramos, Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace, Melissa Barrera and Jimmy Smits, also gets a 31 day showcase on TV, where it ought to be a huge attraction.
Also worthwhile on the same service is the first season finale for “Hacks” (HBO Max, streaming), the solid comedy about a veteran standup comic and the whip-smart young writer she hires to freshen her Las Vegas material. Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder have been fine throughout, and it’s easy enough to binge the first eight episodes before tonight’s final two.
“Younger” (Paramount+, Hulu, streaming), the amusing series with Sutton Foster, Hilary Duff and Debi Mazar that began on cable and ended on streaming services, ends its run after seven season.
It’s also the series finale of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” (E!, 8 p.m.), but I’ll have to see it’s the actual end to believe it.
The imported French series “Moloch” (Sundance Now, streaming) is a mystery thriller about a seaside industrial town where people are suddenly bursting into flames. A journalist and psychiatrist team up to investigate.
Colombia comedians perform in the new weekly series “Locombianos” (Netflix, streaming).
From Manila comes the third season of the horror anime seres “Trese” (Netflix, streaming) based on a Philippine graphic novel.
