CNN will take a break from reporting on the pandemic’s surge for a five-hour concert meant to say goodbye to it. “We Love NYC: The Homecoming Concert” (CNN, 5 p.m.) (and there’s a countdown clock for it) might look like a potential super spreader event, but Central Park’s will be open only to vaccinated people.
It will feature necessarily brief performances by Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Patti Smith, Elvis Costello, Carlos Santana, Jon Batiste, Andrea Bocelli, Kane Brown, LL Cool J, Barry Manilow, Earth Wind & Fire, Jennifer Hudson, Cynthia Erivo, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Journey, Wyclef Jean, the Killers, Maluma, Polo G, Rob Thomas, the New York Philharmonic, JP Saxe and Julia Michaels. Anderson Cooper kicks off coverage with Don Lemon, Erica Hill, Athena Jones and Chloe Melas at 4 p.m.
It’s not the only event television tonight. The seventh annual “Stand Up to Cancer” (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, E!, Epix, ESPNews, FYI, HBO, IFC, Hulu, Peacock, Showtime, Starz, UPtv, 9 p.m.) is a fundraiser for research. Anthony Anderson, Ken Jeong, Tran Ho and Sofia Vergara co-host. Performances will come from Brittany Howard, Common and Stevie Wonder.
“Eden: Untamed Planet” (BBC America, 8 p.m.) takes a look at Patagonia.
A fitting goes awry when a belt goes missing on “Say Yes to the Dress” (TLC, 8 p.m.).
The made-for-TV romance “A Little Daytime Drama” (Hallmark, 9 p.m.), Jen Lilley plays a soap opera actor who tries to get her boyfriend (Ryan Paevey) to return to the sow. Linda Dano also stars.
