What would have been the 84th birthday of Lou Reed got a royal treatment on Capital Radio today, with songs from the groundbreaking Velvet Underground, his own extensive solo career and covers of both from a variety of artists.

Reed was also represented in the birthday salute to Kurt Weill, born this day in 1900. Other birthdays noted today included guitarist Larry Carlton, turning 76; Lawrence Payton of The Four Tops; Rory Gallagher and Desi Arnaz.
