The wisdom of taking a day-to-day approach on detailing what’s new for the fall season on broadcast TV is especially questionable today, when there is apparently only one new show on the Thursday schedules. What was once the biggest TV night for networks now offers just one variation. The reason may be that the networks would rather stick with the reliable shows they have, which would explain three hours of “Law & Order” tonight.
NEW SHOW
“Ghosts” (CBS, 9 p.m., starts Oct. 7). Though it was done better on “Topper” or even “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir,” this wan sitcom, based on a British show (which was never considered for a straight import — those crazy accents!), concerns a couple (Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar) who buy a B&B filled with ghosts representing different points in history, equally unconvincingly. Networks continue to keep their best sitcoms on their streaming services.
RETURNING SHOWS
“Station 19” (ABC, 8 p.m., returns Sept. 30), “Young Sheldon” (CBS, 8 p.m., Oct. 7), Thursday Night Football (Fox, Oct. 7), “The Blacklist” (NBC, Oct. 21), “Walker” (CW, Oct. 28), “United States of Al” (CBS, 8:30 p.m., Oct. 7), “Grey’s Anatomy” (ABC, 9 p.m., Sept. 30), “Law & Order: SVU” (NBC, 9 p.m.), tonight), “Legacies” (CW, 9 p.m., Oct. 14), “B Positive” (CBS, 9:30 p.m., Oct. 7), “Big Sky” (ABC, 10 p.m., Sept. 30), “Bull” (CBS, 10 p.m., Oct. 7), “Law & Order: Organized Crime” (NBC, 10 p.m., tonight).
