Carey Mulligan got an Academy Award nomination for her role in the unusual thriller “Promising Young Woman” (HBO, 8 p.m.), which makes its premium cable debut today. But Emerald Fennell’s debut film actually did win an Oscar — for her screenplay.

It’s kind of shocking how puny the offerings are on broadcast TV, at the end of its fall premiere week. The only new things are sports, a college game, West Virginia at Oklahoma (ABC, 7:30 p.m.) and a baseball game, Atlanta at San Diego (Fox, 7 p.m.).There’s no new shows, for one thing, only reruns of this week’s premieres of “NCIS: Hawai’i” (CBS, 8 p.m.), “Ordinary Joe” (NBC, 8 p.m.) and “The Voice” (NBC, 9 p.m.),

The new “Pop My Pet” (Animal Planet, 9 p.m.) is so named apparently to refer to veterinarian surgeons who operate tonight on an alligator, a puppy and a cow.

In the made-for-TV romance “Taking the Reins” (Hallmark, 9 p.m.) concerns a writer Nikki DeLoach) who returns to the family ranch because she’s writing about horses. But she also meets a guy (Scott Porter). Corbin Bernsen and Janine Turner also star.

In the made-for-TV thriller “Deadly Debutante” (Lifetime, 8 p.m.) concerns a competition for a debutante ball that goes wrong.

“The Zoo: San Diego” (Animal Planet, 8 p.m.) welcomes a white rhino.

Rain is a problem on “Meerkat Manor: Rise of the Dynasty” (BBC America, 8 p.m.).
