Days before Valentine’s Day, the weekend begins with a crush of rom-coms. Chief among them, promotion-wise, is “Marry Me” (Peacock, streaming), also making its debuts in theaters today, Jennifer Lopez is a pop star who plucks a fan from an audience to see if their relationship works. Owen Wilson plays the guy. J-Lo sings original song with Latin music star Maluma, who also costars.
Elsewhere, Charlie Day and Jenny Slate couple up after they’ve been dumped by Gina Rodriguesz and Scott Eastwood in the rom-com “I Want You Back” (Amazon Prime, streaming).
For the Y.A. gang, there’s an adaptation of Jandy Nelson’s “The Sky is Everywhere” (Apple TV+, streaming), starring Cherry Jones and Jason Segel.
A love story with a supernatural bent, “The In Between” (Paramount+, streaming) stars Joey King as a teenage girl who tries to connect with a boyfriend (Kyle Allen) in the afterlife.
And robots take over in the French-made “Bigbug” (Netflix, streaming), even as they couple up.
“Tall Girl 2” (Netflix, streaming) is a sequel to the 2019 rom-com with tall girl Ava Michelle now a confident teen with a boyfriend.
The most romantic reality show, at least at first, is “Love is Blind” (Netflix, streaming) in which singles seek a soul mate without having the ability to see what they look like. Some fall deep; others are a little more shaky after they meet. It seems season two, set in Chicago, goes faster than the first one.
