“Bad Vegan: Fame. Fraud. Fugitives.” (Netflix streaming) follows the story of Sarma Melingailis, once a New York queen of vegan cuisine, who fell under the spell of a con man, with whom they drained the restaurant coffers and became fugitives. The four-part series may be entertaining since its from the executive producer of “Tiger King” and director of “Fire: The Greatest Party That never Happened” and benefits greatly from the full participation of Sarma herself. But it takes a little long to get under way.
There’s never been a celebrity version of “Survivor” but “Beyond the Edge” (CBS, 9 p.m.) comes close, as nine vaguely-familiar personalities endure tough conditions in the jungles of Panama, and raise money for their chosen charities. Participants include Lauren Alaina, Ray Lewis, Craig Morgan, Metta World Peace, Paulina Porizkova, Mike Singletary, Jodie Sweetin, Colton Underwood and Eboni K. Williams.
As for the new season of “Survivor” (CBS, 8 p.m.) it’s gotten off to a better start.
A whole different tropical adventure occurs on “Temptation Island” (USA, Bravo, E!, 10 p.m.), with the fourth season spread across three different cable networks.
Taking its own trip is a naturalist and explorer traveling the globe for adventures on the new series “Expedition with Steve Backshall: Unpacked” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings), which begins with trips that nearly had to be halted.
It sounds like a joke, but there’s also a preview tonight for the upcoming “Influencer Lagoon” (ABC, 9:30 p.m.) which purports to be a competition to find the Next Great Influencer, which is kind of a contradiction in terms.
