The latest interpretation of Marilyn Monroe comes from Ana de Armas, starring as the Hollywood bombshell in an adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’ novel “Blonde” (Netflix, streaming), a film in which Adrien Brody plays Arthur Miller and Bobby Cannavale is Joe DiMaggio. It’s Netflix’ first NC-17 film, which hints at what direction it goes.

As protests rage in present day Iran over the death of a woman in police custody, an earlier tumultuous era in the country is covered in the new four-part documentary series “Hostages” (HBO, 9 p.m.) covering the 444 days that 52 American diplomats and citizens were held hostage there from November 1979 to January 1981. 

Josh Duhamel joins the cast of “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers” (Disney+, streaming) in its second season, in the series adaptation of the movie series starring Lauren Graham. 

The nature series “Rivers of Life” (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings) returns for a new season starting with a visit to the Zambezi in Africa. 

Streaming documentary series continue to highlight terrible people. Tonight is the start of both “Eat the Rich: The GameStop Saga” (Netflix, streaming) about the plot to take down Wall Street, and “Sex, Lies and the College Cult” (Peacock, streaming) about how a guy recruited students at Sarah Lawrence into a sex cult.

The Sept. 6 hearing scheduled for today has been postponed due to Hurricane Ian’s likely landfall today in Florida (which will be dominating the news and weather networks). Rising water in recent years Venice, Italy is the subject of a new “NOVA” (PBS, 9 p.m., check local listings). And a replay of “Wild Weather” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings) will likely be timely.
