A six-part series based on Elena Ferrante’s novel “The Lying Life of Adults” (Netflix, streaming) premieres, starring Giordana Marengo and Valeria Golino as best friends coming of age, a theme similar to the last series based on her Neapolitan novels, “My Brilliant Friend.”
It may be amusing to watch celebrities put through a military-grade wringer on the new reality competition “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test” (Fox, 8 p.m.). Among them: Mike Piazza, Jamie Lynn Spears, Drew Pinsky, Beverley Mitchell, Montell Jordan, “Bachelorette” for life Hannah Brown and, uh, Anthony Scaramucci.
More tough guy stuff comes in the two-hour fourth season premiere of the workers’ competition “Tough as Nails” (CBS, 9 p.m.)
Following events of this week, the title of the new culinary series “NFL Tailgate Takedown” (Food, 9 p.m.) is pretty unfortunate.
A second season comes for the animated “Star Wars: The Bad Batch” (Disney+, streaming).
“American Pickers” (History, 8 p.m.) begins its 24th season with a pair of episodes.
