Developed by an Israeli company, the spyware Pegasus is being used by governments around the world, sometimes to spy on journalists or activists, or even the fiancé of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. It inserts secretly into phones, tracking and copying information but also becoming a recording device. A new two-part “Frontline” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings) tracks the one-year investigation by a consortium of 17 international news organizations looking into a drop of 50,000 phone numbers of those being spied upon. 

Ramon Rodriguez stars as special agent “Will Trent” (ABC, 10 p.m.) in a new series based on Karin Slaughter’s book series. Erika Christensen and Jennifer Morrison also star. 

The heyday of 70s soft rock is celebrated in the three-part documentary “Sometimes When We Touch” (Paramount+, streaming). 

“Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr.” (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings) looks at the family trees of Julia Roberts and Edward Norton on the ninth season premiere. 

An abduction leads to an 18-year-old cold case on “FBI” (CBS, 8 p.m.); “FBI: International” (CBS, 9 p.m.) investigates an art heist in Budapest; and a celebrity child psychiatrist is kidnapped on “FBI: Most Wanted” (CBS, 10 p.m.).

On the hospital shows, budget cuts mean the ER will no longer accept trauma patients on “The Resident” (Fox, 8 p.m.) and Max goes on a corporate retreat on “New Amsterdam” (NBC, 10 p.m.). 

“The Rookie” (ABC, 8 p.m.) responds to a bank robbery; undercover agents may be exposed on “The Rookie: Feds” (ABC, 9 p.m.).
