Courtney B. Vance plays a criminal mastermind who convinces some young bank employees to pull one more caper before he goes to jail in the new film “Heist 88” (Showtime, 9 p.m.), so named for the year the actual robbery took place in Chicago. Keith David, Keesha Sharp and Mariah Gordon also star.

“The Ringleader: The Case of the Bling Ring” (HBO, 9 p.m.) resurrects the story of the teens who broke into celebrity homes to rob them in 2008 and 2009, with one of the interviewees being one of the supposed masterminds. 

With the writers’ strike over, “Last Week Tonight with Jon Oliver” (HBO, 11 p.m.) returns for the first time since April. 

Homer becomes a crossing guard on the 35th season premiere of “The Simpsons” (Fox, 8 p.m.), which kicking off a night animation premieres — the 14th season of “Bob’s Burgers” (Fox, 9 p.m.) and the 22nd season of “Family Guy” (Fox, 9:30 p.m.). They accompany the new animated show “Krapopolis” (Fox, 8:30 p.m.) that debuted last week.

It’s Kansas City at Jets (NBC, 8:20 p.m.) on Sunday Night Football. Earlier games include Atlanta vs. Jacksonville (ESPN+, 9:30 a.m.), Washington at Philadelphia (Fox, 1 p.m.), Baltimore at Cleveland (CBS, 1 p.m.) and New England at Dallas (Fox, 4:25 p.m.). 

“America’s Funniest Videos” (ABC, 7 p.m.) begins its 34th season.

Jesus and company head to Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast of the Tabernacles on “The Chosen” (CW, 8 p.m.). 

“Ranch to Table” (Magnolia, 1 p.m.) returns for its fourth season; “In the Kitchen with Abner and Amanda” (Magnolia, 2 p.m.) is back for its second.

Neal McDonough returns to star in the made-for-TV Western “The Warrant: Breaker’s Law” (INSP, 8 p.m.). The sequel to the 2020 “The Warrant” also stars Dermot Mulroney, Bruce Boxleitner and Nick Searcy. 

“Professor T” (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings) presents the case of a caretaker accused of shooting his employer to his students.

Time for the governor’s black-tie ball on “When Calls the Heart” (Hallmark, 9 p.m.).

“Van der Valk” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings) looks into the death of someone involved in a magic ritual. 

Sunny and Jess reset as they follow the clues in the case on “Unforgotten” (PBS, 9 p.m., check local listings). 

October is here, so here’s the season premiere of “Jack Osbourne’s Night of Terror” (Travel, 10 p.m.), with Sharon Osbourne joining him at an inn in California. 

“Yellowstone” (CBS, 8 p.m.) has another couple of episodes first seen in 2018 on Paramount+.

The Disney ride that turned into a box-office bomb, “The Jungle Cruise” (ABC, 8 p.m.) takes up the whole night. Its cast includes Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Jesse Plemons and Paul Giamatti, who is usually part of “Billions” on Sundays, but it’s skipping a week on tonight.  

Things get back to normal on “Big Brother” (CBS, 10 p.m.), with a new head of household chosen and two nominated for evictions.

“The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” (AMC, 9 p.m.) negotiates with an underground Paris club. Then he and artist Adri Law travel through Portugal on “Ride with Norman Reedus” (AMC, 10:09 p.m.). 

Killer clown designs are part of the “Halloween Wars” (Food, 9 p.m.) for the six remaining teams, and they start stacking them up on “Outrageous Pumpkins” (Food, 10 p.m.). 

“Wardens of the North” (Animal Planet, 9 p.m.) go after law-breaking anglers.

In the made-for-TV thriller “Secrets in the Desert” (Lifetime, 8 p.m.), a couple driving cross country break down in the middle of nowhere. 

“NewsNation Special Report: Sanctuary of Sin” (NewsNation, 9 p.m.) reports on a Missouri compound where some of the worst offenders in the Catholic Church abuse scandals are housed. 

“Sister Wives” (TLC, 10 p.m.) seem to be breaking up.

Turner Classic Movies has a double feature with Gordon MacRae, “Carousel” (8 p.m.) and “On Moonlight Bay” (10:15 p.m.). The silent film tonight is the 1925 “The Phantom of the Opera” (midnight). It’s followed by a pair of horror films from Japanese director Kazui Nihonmatsu, “The X from Outer Space” (2 a.m.) and “Genocide” (4 a.m.). 

In the WNBA, it’s New York at Connecticut (ABC, 3 p.m.) in the last remaining semifinal.

Preseason hockey has Florida vs. Ottawa (NHL, 4 p.m.) and Dallas at Colorado (NHL, 7 p.m.).

NASCAR runs its YellaWood 500 (NBC, 2 p.m.).

Golf’s Ryder Cup (NBC, 5:30 a.m.) reaches its final day (and takes out “Meet the Press”).

Women’s college volleyball includes Wichita State at SMU (ESPNU, 1 p.m.), Georgia at Auburn (ESPN, 1 p.m.), Baylor at Iowa State (ESPN, 3 p.m.), Kentucky at Georgia (ESPNU, 3 p.m.) and Hawaii at Long Beach State (ESPNU, 5 p.m.).
