It’s a little maudlin to celebrate the anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley every year, instead of just on  his January birthday. But that’s when the recently completed Elvis Week in Memphis is always scheduled. And it’s never a bad idea to play a lot of The King twice a year. So there was a dozen classic tracks from Elvis as well as seven more about him capping today’s Capital Radio. (Unfortunately, that segment was almost completely obliterated in the archived recording, perhaps having something to do with the recording “Devil in Disguise”)

Ginger Baker’s birthday led us to play a lot of his work. We also blew out the candles for Billy J. Kramer, Johnny Nash, Nate Dogg, Bill Clinton and the songwriter Roger Cook (turning 84).

There was a little bit of Wifi problems in the middle, but we paid tribute to Harry Nilsson’s “Pussy Cats” released half a century ago today, and we marked the 30th anniversary of Woodstock ’94.

We began by remembering Joe Chambers of the Chambers Brothers, who died Thursday at 81 and berserkly rocker Greg Kihn who died last week at 75.

Here’s a link to (most of) the broadcast; the last hour seems to have dropped off. The setlist follows:
