As Black Friday approaches it might be a good time to see how companies devise to keep customers buying more and more online and in stores — and the resulting mountains of waste that ensues — in the new documentary “Buy Now: The Shopping Conspiracy” (Netflix, streaming).
Even more chilling are the implications of “Surveilled” (HBO, 9 p.m.) a Ronan Farrow documentary about the growing and nefarious uses of spyware that can get into smartphones to copy, record and track.

Today Morgan Wallen has not only returned to these platforms, he leads nominations in The 58th Annual CMA Awards (ABC, 8 p.m.) with seven, including entertainer of the year, opposite Luke Combs, Jelly Roll, Chris Stapleton and Lainey Wilson, who co-hosts the event from Nashville with Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning. Wallen is alone among the entertainer of the year nominees so far not scheduled to perform. Streamers get in on the Christmas movie glut with “The Merry Gentleman” (Netflix, streaming), about staging a Chippendale’s style Christmas-themed revue in order to save a small town bar. Britt Robertson and Chad Michael Murray star.
“Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch” (Discovery, 10 p.m.) begins a new season, following a father-son team trying to excavate a Utah ranch to find an Aztec treasure.
Laotian artifacts lead to holy sites from the Khmer Empire on the season finale of “Secrets of the Dead” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings).
“Chicago Med” (NBC, 8 p.m.) treats a car accident victim; “Chicago Fire” (NBC, 9 p.m.) rescues a dog on a call; and “Chicago P.D.” (NBC, 10 p.m.) puts a focus on intelligence.
A showdown with train robbers at Stone Corral is the fourth season finale on “Wild West Chronicles” (INSP, 10 p.m.).
“Sullivan’s Crossing” (CW, 8 p.m.) reacts to the news of Maggie’s pregnancy.
It’s Miley Cyrus night on “The Masked Singer” (Fox, 8 p.m.), where the latest one unmasked was surfer Bethany Hamilton.
