Eddie Murphy invites us into his super-large California home (with retractable roof) in the documentary  “Being Eddie” (Netflix, streaming).to talk about his career of more than 40 years, from a near-teen on “Saturday Night Live” to a top box office draw, who opened the door for other Black leads and comics. There are ups and downs and his personal life is sort of only hinted at, but it ends with an eye-opening return to “SNL” in 2019 after snubbing it for years that is rare in showing the backstage planning and the banter between he and Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock and Tracy Morgan. 

Part of Alicia Silverstone’s return (she’s also in “Begonia”) is starring in a new holiday film, “My Merry Little Ex-Mas” (Netflix, streaming) about a recent divorcee who decides to spend one last Christmas with the family together. Complications ensue. Oliver Hudson, Melissa Joan Hart and Jameela Jamil also star in the holiday rom-com.

From Italy comes the series “Mrs. Playmen” (Netflix, streaming), telling the story of Italy’s first erotic magazine in Rome in the 1970s. Carolina Crescentini stars.

From Brazil comes the documentary “Eloá the Hostage: Live on TV” (Netflix, streaming) about a 22-year-old who kidnapped his 15-year-old ex-girlfriend in a standoff that became high-rated live TV event. 

A fourth season comes for the excesses of “Selling the OC” (Netflix, streaming) where rich, comely real estate agents sell overly large houses to the even richer. 

“Palm Royale” (Apple TV, streaming) the series about social climbing in South Florida, starring Kristen Wiig, returns for a second season. Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Ricky Martin, Carol Burnett, Leslie Bigg and Josh Lucas all return; new guest stars include Patti LuPone, John Stamos and Vicki Lawrence. 

From South Korea comes “Dynamite Kiss” (Netflix, streaming) a new rom-com series about a woman who fakes being a mother in order to get a job, only to fall in love with a team leader at the new job. 

“The Golden Bachelor” (ABC, 8 p.m.) makes his choice on the finale which leads to all the “After the Final Rose” business (and if it’s anything like the first season, a quick divorce). 

The body of a young woman is found in a suitcase on a broken-down bus on “Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent” (CW, 8 p.m.). 

“Secrets of the Dead” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings) looks at what could be a rare, recently found  portrait of William Shakespeare. 

“Chicago Med” (NBC, 8 p.m.) treats a soon-to-be father battling cancer; “Chicago Fire” (NBC, 9 p.m.) looks into a suspicious high school blaze; and “Chicago P.D.” (NBC, 10 p.m.) responds to a violent break-in. 

“Shark Tank” (ABC, 10 p.m.) is pitched 3D-printed string instruments. 

An idol search is on for those on “Survivor” (CBS, 8 p.m.).

“The Amazing Race” (CBS, 9:30 p.m.) head to Bucharest. 

The sea turtle and the jaguar meet on a Coata Rican beach on a new “Nature” (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings). 

“Nova” (PBS, 9 p.m., check local listings) ends a two-part series on the International Space Station over the years, focusing on the scariest moments. 

An eight-week-old hippo gets a checkup on “Work on the Wild Side” (Animal Planet, 9 p.m.). 

“Tournament of Champions: All-Star Christmas” (Food, 8 p.m.) has more competitions and more premature Christmas decor. 

“Mountain Men” (History, 8 p.m.) takes the dog team on an Arctic adventure. 

A six-truck convoy heads to Hudson Bay on “Ice Road Truckers” (History, 9:30 p.m.). 

Turner Classic Movies continues its Wednesday night series of political thrillers with “North by Northwest” (8 p.m.), “The Ipcress File” (10 p.m.), “Gorky Park” (12:30 a.m.), “Fail Safe” (2:45 a.m.),  and “The 39 Steps” (4:45 a.m.). 

During the day are films of foreign intrigue with “I Am Waiting” (7 a.m.), “Macao” (8:45 a.m.), “Berlin Express” (10:15 a.m.), “Journey into Fear” (11:45 a.m.), “Le Bete Humaine” (1 p.m.), “Passage to Marseille” (4:15 p.m.) and “Pepe Le Mono” (6:15 p.m.). 

NBA action has Orlando at Knicks (ESPN, 7 p.m.) and Lakers at Oklahoma City (ESPN, 9:30 p.m.).
