It’s funny that they keep calling it “Dancing with the Stars” (ABC, 8 p.m.) after 35 seasons, since you’d be hard-pressed to identify many of those chosen to participate, largely C-listers drawn from reality shows from “Summer House” or “The Traitors,’ “Bachelorette” runners-up, relatives of past contestants, a guy from Hanson, and Jimmy Kimmel’s sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez. But some seem like ringers, from the Olympic figure skater Amber Glenn to the former Janet Jackson dancer Jenna Dewan. By now the hosts — Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough — are more famous and so are the judges, Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli.
“R.J. Decker” (ABC, 10 p.m.), the jokey South Florida detective series based on a novel by Carl Hiassen that was fairly well received in its first season, returns for its second. Scott Speedman returns in the title role; also back are Jaina Lee Ortiz and Kevin Rankin. Beau Bridges joins the cast this season in a recurring role as R.J.’s estranged father. It’s the first (and so far only) network scripted series to premiere in TV’s fall season.
Stephen Colbert makes his first late night appearance since his show was cancelled in May by appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (ABC, 11:35 p.m.).
“Kitchen Nightmares” (Fox, 8 p.m.) reaches its season finale with a pair of episodes.
It’s also the end of the season for “Password” (NBC, 10 p.m.), with Alan Cumming joining Jimmy Fallon and Keke Palmer.
“America’s Got Talent” (NBC, 8 p.m.) continues its semifinals.
A seasonal variation comes to the rehab shows with “A Very Haunted Renovation” (HGTV, 8 p.m.) in which six designers have to stay in a spooky old house in Ohio as they renovate it. Anna Camp of “Scream 7” hosts.
“The Real Housewives of New York City” (Bravo, 8 p.m.) goes to a brunch thrown by Daisy for Sai.
Street violence threatens to unravel Wanda’s music dreams on “The Drop: A Snowfall Saga” (FX, 9 p.m.).
The special “Best of the VMAs: Iconic Vanguard Performances” (MTV, 9 p.m.) gets to actually show on the actual MTV after premiering on CBS Sunday.
Tammy and Andrea start wedding planning on “1000-lb Sisters” (TLC, 9 p.m.). Will there be room for them to invite the “1000-lb. Roomies” (TLC, 10 p.m.)?’
“The Proof is Out There” (History, 9 p.m.) is really about the questions being out there.
The month-long Tuesday night swashbuckler series on Turner Classic Movies continues with some films from the 1950s, “Against All Flags” (8 p.m.), “The Crimson Pirate” (9:30 p.m.), “Moonfleet” (11:30 p.m.), “Cyrano De Bergerac” (1:15 a.m.), “The Master of Ballantrae” (3:15 a.m.) and “Ivanhoe” (5 a.m.).
