ABC unveiled an even six new dramas and six new comedies for its 2014-15 schedule in its upfront sessions Tuesday boasting of its schedule as if a coffee, with “a judicious mix of boldness and stability.”
The new dramas are:
- “Forever” Ioan Gruffudd stars as a medical examiner who also studies bodies to find out more about immortality. With Judd Hirsch and Barbara Eve Harris, from the makers of “Chuck” and “Ganster Squad.” Tuesdays
- “How to Get Away with Murder” in which Viola Davis stars as a law professor who gets four students involved in a case, the third show that will be on the schedule from Shonda Rhimes (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal”). With Billy Brown, Katie Findlay and Alfred Enoch. Thursdays.
- “American Crime” When a vet and his wife are attached, four suspects near arrest in one drawn out case, starring Felicity Huffman, Timotphy Hutton, Benito Martinez and Penelope Ann Miller, from John Ridley (“12 Years a Slave”). Midseason.
- “Marvel’s Agent Carter” stars Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter from “Captain America” film series, a second Marvel series for ABC. Midseason.
- “Secrets and Lies” stars Ryan Phillippe as a murder suspect opposite Juliette Lewis as detective, from the maker of “Private Practice,” based on an Australian series of the same name. Midseason.
- “The Whispers,” not about the 70s soul group, but about aliens who have invaded in the form of children. With Lily Rabe, Barry Sloane and Milo Ventimiglia. From Steven Spielberg’s production company. Midseason.
The new comedies are:
- “Selfie” Karan Gillan finds that having 263,000 followers isn’t the same as having an actual friend, so she learns how to connect with people, “My Fair Lady” style. From Emily Kapnek. Tuesdays.
- “Manhattan Love Story” The gimmick about this romantic comedy is that you can hear the thoughts of the daters, who include Analeigh Tipton, Jake McDorman and Nicholas Wright. Tuesdays
- “Black-ish” Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross ad Laurence Fishburn star as an African-American family who move out to the suburbs. Larry Wilmore is one of the producers. Wednesday
- “Christela” stars comedian Christela Alonzo as a Mexican-American who is trying to break into the world of law while dealing with her traditional family. Fridays.
- “Fresh Off the Boat” about an 11 year old Asian-American who moves from D.C.’s Chinatown to Orlando with his family. Midseason.
- “Galavant” the only new musical comedy on the new season roster, Dan Fogelman teams with Alan Menken and Glenn Slater for this fairytale starring Joshua Sasse and Mallory Jansen.
Returning shows are “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” “The Bachelor,” “Castle,”
“Dancing with the Stars,” “The Goldbergs,” “The Great Christmas Light Fight,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Last Man Standing,” “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “The Middle,” “Modern Family,” “Nashville,” “Once Upon a Time,” “Resurrection,” “Revenge,” “Scandal,” “Shark Tank,” “The Taste” and “20/20.”
Not returning are “Back in the Game,” “Betrayal,” “Lucky 7,” “Mixology,” “The Neighbors,” “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland,” “Suburgatory,” “Super Fun Night,” “The Assets,” “Betrayal,” “Killer Women,” “Mind Games” and “Trophy Wife.”
