In summer, networks aren’t afraid to drag out their dumbest reality show ideas, knowing nobody may notice them anyway.
Example number one: the modern day version of tying a string on a dollar bill and dragging it along: On the new show “The Briefcase” (CBS, 8 p.m.), two families on hard times are given suitcases of more than $100,000. They have to decide whether to keep it all, or share it with the other family — all for our entertainment.
If you need your summer reality even more simple, here’s “Bullseye” (Fox, 9 p.m.), in which people try to position themselves like darts, to hit the big circle. Sadly, the host is not comic actor John Lutz, but male model Kellan Lutz.
The “iHeartRadio Country Festival” (NBC, 9 p.m.) has a real twang to it with performances by features Tim McGraw, Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, the Band Perry, Brantley Gilbert, Little Big Town, Justin Moore and Dierks Bentley, in concert from Austin.
The raucous “Big Time in Hollywood, FL” (Comedy Central, 10:30 p.m.), perhaps the first serialized adventure comedy, comes to its first season finale.
The 22 cooks on “MasterChef” (Fox, 8 p.m.) have to use the 20 ingredients in their mystery boxes.
Gabi mulls an internship in Switzerland on “Young and Hungry” (ABC Family, 8 p.m.).
A step beyond “Catfish,” “Swab Stories” (VH1, 8 p.m.) is a series that determines paternity, among other relationships.
To be named Trainwreck of the Week must be some kind of badge of pride in the “Walk of Shame Shuttle” (VH1, 8:30 p.m.), a kind of “Taxicab Confessions” for one kind of early morning passenger.
Verne Troyer and Hines Ward trade women on “Celebrity Wife Swap” (ABC, 9 p.m.) and it doesn’t go particularly well.
The month-long Wednesday night salute to actor Sterling Hayden concludes with “The Star” (8 p.m.), “So Big” (9:45 p.m.), “The Long Goodbye” (11:45 p.m.), “Loving” (1:45 a.m.) and “Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb” (3:30 a.m.).
It’s Houston at Golden State (ESPN, 9 p.m.) in the NBA playoffs; Anaheim at Chicago (NBC Sports, 8 p.m.) in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Baseball has Miami at Pittsburgh (MLB, 12:30 p.m.), Detroit at Oakland (MLB, 3:30 p.m.) and Arizona at St. Louis (MLB, 8:15 p.m.).
And early round play continues in the French Open (ESPN2, 5 a.m.; Tennis Channel, 10 a.m.).
