GuiltyAs solid as the other Sunday night British dramas have been on public television, “Home Fires” (PBS, 8 p.m., check local listings) and “Indian Summers” (PBS, 9 p.m., check local listings), they have built room this season for a pretty good contemporary murder case to follow them as well. So far they’ve been inspired by the tone of “Broadchurch,” which is not a bad thing.

With “The Widower” wrapped up last week, a new one starts tonight. “The Guilty” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings) concerns the case of a missing boy. Tasmin Greig, best known from her role on Showtime’s “Episodes,” stars as a tough detective. It’s a low commitment situation: Just three episodes, starting tonight.

After years of trying Sideshow Bob finally succeeds in killing Bart on “The Simpsons” (Fox, 8 p.m.), in their annual “Treehouse of Horror” episode. Again, it comes as part of a fantasy anthology of a couple of stories (the other involving Homer as Godzilla), but Sideshow’s killing and abuse of the body is pretty off-putting even on a show where gore is celebrated on “Itchy and Scratchy.”

Fitting that something called the Europe Music Award would give its first visionary award to Duran Duran. “2015 MTV EMA” (MTV, 8 p.m. also features performances by Pharrell Williams, Ellie Goulding, Jason Derulo, Twenty One Pilots, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Andrea Bocelli, Tori Kelly, James Bay, Jess Glynne and probably some other people you’ve never heard of. Ed Sheehan and Ruby Rose host.

After laying low for a while, Bill Clinton is suddenly everywhere, introducing Katy Perry in Iowa Saturday and today kicking off the second season of Neil deGrasse Tyson’s science talk show, “StarTalk” (National Geographic, 11 p.m.).

Sunday Night Football has Philadelphia at Carolina (NBC, 8:20 p.m.). Earlier games include Tampa Bay at Washington (Fox, 1 p.m.), Oakland at San Diego (CBS, 4 p.m.) and Dallas at Giants (Fox, 4:25 p.m.).

The two-hour special is called “Brain Surgery Live with Mental Floss” (National Geographic, 9 p.m.), but the delicate surgery as entertainment, which sounds like something out of “The Knick” is sponsored by a website and magazine called Mental Floss. So they’re not actually going to be using floss, I don’t think.

We know Saul has been peeved at Carrie on “Homeland” (Showtime, 9 p.m.), but should he have put her on a kill list?

A winner is named among the finalists who made the spooky thematic dinner parties on “Halloween Wars” (Food, 9 p.m.), with Elvira joining the judges panel.

A new season of “Robot Chicken” (Cartoon Network, midnight) begins with Godzilla vs. Jason.

Helen’s point of view has been one of the most interesting ones this season on “The Affair” (Showtime, 10 p.m.).

School is open again on “Oprah’s Master Class” (OWN, 8 p.m.) and the first guest is Ellen DeGeneres.

Alicia is at odds a bond court judge on “The Good Wife” (CBS, 10 p.m.).

Of the first season network shows on tonight, “Quantico” (ABC, 10 p.m.) has been doing a lot better than “Blood & Oil” (ABC, 9 p.m.).

Joe Biden talks about the candidacy that got away on “60 Minutes” (CBS, 8 p.m.).

Back in Texas, Kevin tries to figure out what happened when he blacked out on “The Leftovers” (HBO, 9 p.m.).

Rick tries to get back to Alexandria on “The Walking Dead” (ABC, 9 p.m.).

Jeff Chandler plays Cochise in “Broken Arrow” (TCM, 8 p.m.) and its sequel “The Battle at Apache Pass” (TCM, 10 p.m.).

Hockey has Calgary at Rangers (NHL, 7 p.m.).
