In the new, eight-part “Unbelievable” (Netflix, streaming) Toni Collette and Merritt Wever make a formidable team of detectives, digging into a sexual assault case of a young woman (Kaitlyn Dever) that had been cruelly dismissed years earlier. It’s based on a true story – and the Pulitzer-prize winning book by T. Christian Miller and Ken Armstrong, adapted by Susannah Grant (“Erin Brockovich”).
The similarly named “Undone” (Amazon, streaming) comes off like a lushly-illustrated book about a young woman whose unconscious is set free by an auto accident. Suddenly, she is seeing vision of her dead father, searching her on to action.
There are real emotions from the characters, who are rendered in such a way that heightens the cinema-old animation technique of rotoscoping — and real story of rootlessness, while providing the flight of fancy that computer generated film effects cannot Rosa Salazar does much more than provide a voice; her acting shines through the enhancements of the drawing; Bob Odenkirk appears as her ghostly father.
It was Drake who pushed for the revival — five years after it went off the air — of the British series “Top Boy” (Netflix, streaming), in which Kane Robinson and Ashley alters play a pair of London drug dealers who up to now have been rivals, but now decide to work together. Their new foe is a younger dealer on the scene (Micheal Ward).
