Chris Lilley, who appears as multiple characters in his series such as “Summer Heights High,” returns with a new show in the same mockumentary style.
“Angry Boys” (HBO, 10 and 10:30 p.m.) features the versatile Australian comedian as a juvenile matron, identical twin brothers, left (first featured in his series “We Can Be Heroes”), a former surfing champ, an American rapper and the mother of a skateboard champ. Lilley wrote and directed the bigger budget work.
Oprah Winfrey’s OWN Network marks its first anniversary today, having not left much of a mark on cable viewing. That may have been because she’s spent so little time on any of its shows. That changes tonight as “Oprah’s Next Chapter” (OWN, 9 p.m.) makes its premiere.
It’s an interview show, as was her long-running talk show. But in this case, she makes house calls. First off, it’s to Lake Sunapee, New Hampshire to chat with Steven Tyler.
“Mob Wives” (VH1, 8 p.m.) returns with that odd taint of being popular its first season. That means a lot of the conflict this season is about their new books and promotional tours instead of visiting their men in jail, for example.
On the new “Rachael vs. Guy Celebrity Cook-Off” (Food Network, 9 p.m.) the celebrity chefs Rachael Ray and Guy Fieri coach teams of reality TV retreads, including Coolio, Aaron Carter, Joey Fatone, Lou Diamond Phillips, Taylor Dayne and Cheech Marin, and tries to turn them into cooks in competitions.
The annual concert “From Vienna: The New Year’s Celebration” is presented from the Musikverein, and a program that features a lot of Strauss. Julie Andrews is host of the presentation on “Great Performances” (PBS, 9 p.m., check local listings)by the Vienna Philharmonic with the Vienna Boys Choir.
Dr. Jan Garavaglia revisits the sensational case in Florida on the special “Dr. G: Inside the Caylee Anthony Case” (TLC, 8 p.m.) There are so many marathons on today, but it’s unusual for one of them to be on network TV. It happens with “Once Upon a Time” (ABC, 7, 8, 9 and 10 p.m.).
It’s one of my new year’s resolutions: “Finding Bigfoot” (Animal Planet, 10 pm.).
And yes, it’s here. Didn’t you know someone would have it on the very first day? “2012” (Starz, 4:30 and 7:20 p.m.).
This is strange: No Rose Bowl parade today and no Tournament of Roses Parade either. When New Year’s falls on Sunday, they do it on Monday. Tune in tomorrow.
There are no college bowl games on at all today. But there is Sunday Night Football (NBC, 8:15 p.m.) with Cowboys at Giants. At about the same time a SportsCenter Special (ESPN, 8:30 p.m.) reviews the NFL playoff schedule. Earlier, it’s Bills at Patriots (CBS, 1 p.m.), Redskins at Eagles (Fox, 1 p.m.), Chiefs at Broncos (CBS, 4:15 p.m.) and Seahawks at Cardinals (Fox, 4:15 p.m.).
