Meryl Streep, Candice Bergen and Dianne Wiest play college chums reuniting on a cruise in Stephen Soderbergh’s latest film “Let Them All Talk” (HBO Max, streaming). Shot during a two week Cruise on the Queen Mary II, it featured largely improvised dialog from the cast that also includes Lucas Hedges and Gemma Chan.
The Great White Way wakes up briefly for “One Night Only: The Best of Broadway” (NBC, 8 p.m.), a showcase of songs from top productions such as “Chicago,” “Ain’t Too Proud — The Life and Times of the Temptations,” “Jagged Little Pill,” “Mean Girls” and “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.” There’s also a peek at planned 2021 shows. Tina Fey hosts the event that also welcomes Lance Bass, Kristen Bell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jake Gyllenhaal, Sean Hayes, Nathan Lane, Alanis Morissette, Vanessa Williams, Kelly Clarkson and Patti Labelle, among others.
Clarkson and Groban also appear in a documentary that looks into the history of the familiar German carol. “Silent Night – A Song for the World” (CW, 8 p.m.) features a variety of versions of the songs, from Kelly Clarkson, Joss Stone, David Foster, Katherine McPhee, Randy Jackson, Gavin Rossdale, Josh Groban and the Vienna Boys Choir, among others.
“The Time Person of the Year Special” (NBC, 10 p.m.) highlights major figures of 2020, which this year are the frontline workers. But they also name entertainer of the year, athlete of the year and businessperson of the year.
The new Japanese series “Alice in Borderland” (Netflix, streaming) finds a young couple in a fantasy Tokyo, playing video games to stay alive.
