In Washington, the first day of spring unexpectedly coincided with peak cherry blossom bloom — 10 days ahead of schedule. We can’t take credit for that, of course, but hope the day’s show helped set the soundtrack to the new season with songs from artists as varied as Stravinsky, Donna Summer, the Magnetic Fields, Jonathan Richmond, the Dixie Cups, Air and Lana Del Rey.
Took time to praise Aimee Mann, recently unceremoniously removed from the Steely Dan summer tour.
Played slections echoing from a couple of recent D.C. shows and some of the participants in the just-completed SXSW. Ended by remembering Timmy Thomas and closed with the one candidate I’d vote for on “American Song Contest,” The Crystal Method.
