Things seem a little off right off the bat when the annual conference for self-proclaimed anarchists in glitzy Acapulco shows a ballroom with all the chairs in neat rows. Isn’t anarchy supposed to be a little more anarchic? Well, it’s clear from the multi-part documentary series “The Anarchists” (HBO, 10 p.m.) are Americans who don’t want to pay taxes or send their kids to school; libertarians who are enamored with bitcoin and taking private jets to the event, which gets bigger each year.
This causes a rift with the few hippie types who really do want a freer life. And in this case it leads to some murders as well — but the story is told very slowly and we learn way too much about people who don’t seem worth spending this time with — like an early multi-part HBO documentary series on Qanon.
