Had to start with a salute to The Killer, Jerry Lee Lewis, who died Friday (and who, I’m proud to say, we played a handful of songs from last week, on the occasion of his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame).

But otherwise, it was all Halloween, as you might expect from a Monday show lucky enough to fall on Oct. 31. We played vampires last week, so stuck to graveyards, ghosts, haunted houses, werewolves and monsters, and the holiday itself, including a couple of songs that had almost considered metamorphais: “Who do you want to be?” Phoebe Bridgers asks; “Who aare you supposed to be?” The Gaslight Anthem inquires.

I tried to stick to songs largely new to me, though many were old, dating back to the 30s for Louis Armstrong and The Five Jones Boys. Bobby “Boris” Pickett was heard only in promos to DJs who helped boost his “Monster Mash.” Glad to include something new from the Pixies for the occasion. And just had to include a few favorite standards, from Lou Reed, Tegan & Sara, The Cramps and Frank Zappa.

Had a whole lot more to play too, but had to help close the street for trick or treaters at twilight. Here’s the link to the whole show the playlist follows:
