Nearly 140 years after the first publication of the book, and more than 80 since the Disney cartoon, the old wooden boy has had quite a year. First there was the live action Disney movie with Tom Hanks

as Geppetto earlier this fall. Now there’s “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” (Netflix, streaming) when not just the title character, but everybody is turned back into puppets, in a manner of speaking. Working with stop-action animator Mark Gustafson, del Toro retells the classic story, using the voices of Ewan McGregor (as the much more bug-like Cricket) and Tilda Swinton.

In another new animated film, “Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again” (Disney+, streaming) revives the story at the American Museum of Natural History at night.

Zoey Deutch and Ray Nicholson star in “Something from Tiffany’s” (Amazon Prime, streaming), a movie about a shopping mix-up.

Will Smith stars (and tries to resuscitate his image) in “Emancipation” (Apple TV+, streaming), about a man trying to escape slavery during the Civil War.

“It’s a Wonderful Binge” (Hulu, streaming) is a parody of both the “Purge” movies and the holiday movies.

The Tony Award-winning actress is followed through her busy schedule in the documentary “Idina Menzel: Which Way to the Stage?” (Disney+, streaming).

Home cooks try to find their way to their cooking show dreams on the new series “America’s Test Kitchen: The Next Generation” (Amazon FreeVee, streaming).
