The Chinese New Year comes this weekend, we are ready for it, with a dozen songs to salute the Year of the Dragon.
It’s also the birthday of Hartford-raised Wrecking Crew drumming ace Hal Blaine, born this day in 1929, who was on more of your favorite recordings that you can imagine. He also recorded under his own name.
It’s the 80th birthday for Al Kooper, a key part of Bob Dylan’s electric revival who devised the Blues Project and Blood, Sweat & Tears, had his own solo career and discovered acts from Shuggie Otis to Lynyrd Skynyrd. He got into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just last year.
And we recall Beat poet William S. Burroughs, born this day in 1914, who recites to a couple of familiar rock songs.
Closed with the (now) annual competition of songs representing Super Bowl cities: reigning champ Kansas City vs. San Francisco, with a couple songs about actual Chiefs and 49ers.
