We began with a half dozen hits from Connie Francis, who died Wednesday at 87 and paid tribute to Jamaica’s Owen Gray, who died Sunday at 86.
Then it was a dozen-song salute to Kim Fowley, the unusual producer, writer and sometime performer who worked on the fringes of recording for decades, born this day in 1939.
It was also the 77th birthday of Cat Stevens, Charlotte Gainsbourg turned 54, and the one hit wonder Taco turned 70. We remembered Sara Carter of the Carter Family, born this day in 1898; Wings guitarist Henry McCullough (1943), and Kay Starr (1922). And there was a set about songs nominally about Ernest Hemingway, born this day in 1899.
But it was also the 100th anniversary of the verdict for The Snopes Trial, hence eleven songs about moneys, some of which actually took up issues of that case.
