Once a national cultural highpoint of holiday week, designed to honor the pinnacle of artistic achievement, the Kennedy Center Honors ICBS, 8 p.m.) in one fell swoop becomes another tawdry tool of self-promotion of the ego driven current president.
Even before he illegally desecrated the memorial by putting his own name on it, he got personally involved in the low-rent choices — the rock band Kiss, a cowboy hat country singer, the star of “Rambo,” a disco singer with one song, and someone who appeared in his favorite musical. (Sure, it’s not Kid Rock, Lee Greenwood or the Village People, but he apparently wanted to save some for next year.). Still: No jazz, classical or dance representatives.
Plus: he hosts. Is there a way to get this guy off the TV for one night?
All of this from a network whose right wing new leaders yanked a critical “60 Minutes” report it had been promoting at the last minute Sunday. There’s nothing to celebrate here.
