Here are some other things I’ve written so far this year, mostly rock reviews but a few other things too:

  • Welcoming a new sculpture to the Hirshhorn by Arlene Shechet, pictured above, for Smithsonian Magazine.
  • Reporting from Making Vinyl, an international conference of vinyl manufacturers, for The Vinyl District.
  • An interview with the Chicago band Urge Overkill, largely about the reissue of their album “Exit the Dragon.”
  • Celebrating the music of John Prine in a concert with Emmylou Harris, Margo Price, Hayes Carll and more.
  • At opening night of Bruce Springsteen‘s ringing Land of Hopes and Dreams tour in Minneapolis, from my Substack.
  • Rockin’ out with the ageless Bill Kirchen at Jammin’ Java, drawing his old fans from Annapolis.
  • Iron and Wine headlining the 9:30 Club with his band, for The Vinyl District.
  • I came for the Mercury Rev and stayed for the Afghan Whigs at the 930.
  • Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore join forces once more, with Lenny Kaye too, at the Birchmere.
  • Tasty show from a couple of people upending blues and folk in their ways, Jake Xerxes Fussell and Sam Amidon.
  • Luna casts a spell at the Birchmere, for The Vinyl District.
