The strains of the King’s “Promised Land” played and Michelle Bachman jumped out of her bus in South Carolina Tuesday declaring, “Before we get started let’s all say happy birthday to Elvis Presley today. Happy birthday!”
Great! Except that Tuesday’s the anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death, not his birthday.
Chalk it up as another mix-up from the presidential candidate who mistakenly hailed her own hometown of Waterloo Iowa as the birthplace of John Wayne when it was actually the birthplace of mass murderer John Wayne Gacy.
The winner of the Iowa straw poll Saturday may not be the greatest choice for our country in 2012. But for late night comedy writers and “The Daily Show,” she will be no less than a gift from heaven.
