He had been among the slate of those receiving the least amount of votes for four weeks running, so it was time Thursday for Marcus Canty to finally take his leave from “The X-Factor.”

Canty had to sing for his survival in past week (until last week’s deadlock), but for the semi-finals all the power shifted to the viewers, who shoveled in 30 million votes, host Steve Jones said.

He didn’t say who got the most, but he did confirm Canty got the least. And the soulful singer would see it comin.’

“Aw, don’t be sad,” he told Jones. “Trust me, this is not the last time you’re going to see Marcus Canty.”

“I gave it my all,” he said. “And really, at the end of the day, that’s all I can do. I love America man.” And by America, he meant viewers of the show.

Judges had been giving him favorable critiques for weeks (even when he didn’t deserve it). But this week, Simon Cowell said his performance of “Careless Whisper” was “grotesque” and “horrific.”

Going to the finals next week are Josh Krajcik, Chris Rene and Melanie Amaro.
