One of my favorite series this summer, readers will know, is the oddball reality series from National Geographic, “American Colony: Meet the Huttterites.”

The unusual, German-speaking sect of Protestants in central Montana were a little more willing to use modern technology than their similarly plain clothes-wearing bretherend the Amish, but have their own traditions of staying in the family and shunning.

Just the unusual accents and their exortation over modern living (“I must have that device,” young Claudia Hofer said when she saw an iPad).

Now the sect wants an apology from National Geographic because their lifestyle was held up to ridicule and charged that they were told to do for most of the episodes.

Shocking!

Bertha told the Associated Press she was afraid of excommunication since the show depicted Claudia considering going to a secular college outside of the colony.

Canadian-based Hutterite bishops had issued statements earlier in the summer that they were “deeply disappointed” in the show and its depiction of their faith, which it called distorted.

National Geographic officials have stood by the show.

But this definitely puts a wrench into season two.
