I only learned about the death of Phil Everly while on the show, so didn’t have any Everly Brothers to play except for a cover from Simon & Garfunkel. But I had planned some tributes to two other stars who died during previous New Year’s holidays — Ricky Nelson, who died Dec. 31, 1985 at 45, and Hank Williams, who died Jan. 1 1953 at just 29. Both were on their way to perform in shows.
