The first Indian-made film nominated for best documentary Oscar last night gets its widest showcase on “Independent Lens” (PBS, 10 p.m., check local listings). “Writing with Fire” by Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh focuses on a group that trains women in rural northern India to become reporters.

That film lost last night to “Summer of Soul” (Hulu, streaming). But the winner of the Best Short Documentary Oscar last night also has a premiere. “The Queen of Basketball” (NBA, 6:30 p.m.) concerns the first woman to be officially drafted by the NBA, Luisa Harris, who was also the first to score in the inaugural women’s basketball game in 1976. Harris herself narrates the film, though she didn’t live to see the Oscar win — she died in January at the age of 66.

“Warrior Women with Lupita Nyong’o” (Smithsonian, 8 p.m.) has the actress visiting the women in Benin, West Africa, who helped inspire the female army in “Black Panther.”

The award-winning manga “Thermae Romae” becomes a new anime series “Thermae Romae Novae” (Netflix, streaming), about a bathhouse designer during the Roman Empire who travels to modern-day Japan (but also the Edo period).

“American Idol” (ABC, 8 p.m.) begins Hollywood Week by inviting some of its biggest names back to visit.

The first of a couple added episodes to “Secrets of Playboy” (A&E, 9 p.m.) features interviews with a pair of former Hefner girlfriends who were once on “The Girls Next Door.”
