Thursday TV: Out of Chicago, ‘The Bear’

Jeremy Allen White of “Shameless” moves to another gritty Chicago story, playing a young high-end chef who returns to run his brother’s sandwich shop in Chicago in a new series “The Bear” (Hulu, streaming), which is listed as a comedy but plays like a high-stress drama. Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri and Abby Elliott also star.

The fifth hearing of House Select Committee on the Attack on Jan. 6 (CNN, MSNBC, CSPAN, PBS, ABC, CBS, NBC, 3 p.m.) will concern the efforts to remake the Justice Department so it could do the bidding of those who wanted a coup. It will be the last such hearing until July, because so many tips (and a lot of footage from a previously unknown documentary) have to be reviewed. MSNBC has a recap of today’s session at 8.

“Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe” (Paramount+, streaming) brings back the dim MTV duo whose feature” …Do America” came out more than a quarter century ago.

There’s no NBA action, but there is the NBA Draft (ABC, ESPN, 8 p.m.; ESPN, 11 p.m.).

“Walker” (CW, 8 p.m.) revisits a dark part of his past on the season finale.
